Shar-Pei Rescue of Virginia new additions

Our 23 Shar-Pei Rescued Since Late June

We try not to constantly ask our supporters for donations, but our expenses to care for the Rescue Pei have been extremely high and we need your help.  We have used all of the funds raised from our summer Beach Party Fundraiser and the fundraiser to help with Ollie’s emergency…multiple times over, with over $25,000 in expenses (almost all veterinary) since late June.

We just rescued four more Shar-Pei – Maple, Alphfreda, Toby, and Charlie Brown – who were abandoned, which brings us to 23 rescues since late June.  They have all come in “groups”, with Cane being the only one who arrived solo. This is unusual…we usually take in one dog from a situation, get him or her settled, then work on another…that’s not the situation this year.  We also have several Shar-Pei and Shar-Pei mixes waiting for furever homes who have been in our care for longer and still have some expenses.  Since late June, our Rescue Pei have needed:

  • Six entropion surgeries (over $8,500), with three more scheduled for October
  • Two eye tacks and several eye consultations
  • Ollie’s emergency veterinary care and follow-up ($3,400)
  • Eight spay/neuters, with many more needed as the dogs are old enough
  • Vaccinations and heartworm testing for almost everyone
  • Treatment for ears, skin and more ears!
  • Heartworm treatment
  • Heartworm and flea and tick preventatives
  • Microchips
  • Veterinary boarding for the Louisiana four while recovering to be well enough to transport; temporary boarding for Fran and Henry

How can you help?

  • Donations can be made through Paypal (if you don’t have a Paypal account, you can use a credit card through the Paypal link without having an account), Venmo or check.  Instructions for all of these options can be found at https://sharpeirescueofva.org/_wp/donate/
  • With Paypal, there is also an option to set up automated monthly recurring donations.
  • For those managing Required Minimum Distributions from IRAs, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can be a great way to reduce the tax impact of RMDs and help the Shar-Pei.  We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  Check with your tax or financial advisor!
  • We are setup to receive donations of stock. A donation of appreciated stock is a way to make a contribution to the rescue and receive tax benefits. We encourage you to check with your tax advisor to discuss potential tax advantages. Anyone interested in donating stock can email info@sharpeirescueofva.org for information.
  • Sell unused items on eBay and donate a portion to the Rescue.  Your final value fees will be reduced proportionately to the % you donate.  We are registered with eBay for Charity at https://charity.ebay.com/…/i/Shar-Pei-Rescue-of-VA/42671
  • Are you a Kroger shopper in the Virginia area?  If so, please sign up for Kroger Community Rewards and designate Shar-Pei Rescue of Virginia to receive rewards based on your shopping.  It is free to you! To enroll, register online at krogercommunityrewards.com and select Shar-Pei Rescue of Virginia – JY795!
  • ADOPT one of our Shar-Pei waiting for a “furever” home!  Visit https://sharpeirescueofva.org/_wp/our-shar-pei/ to see our available Shar-Pei.

We greatly appreciate any help that you can provide!
