Hi, I’m Hope!
I came into Rescue from a terrible situation with two other female Shar-Pei and one male Shar-Pei at the end of June. My face was terribly swollen from infected ears and I was bleeding. The Rescue had a veterinarian take care of us for a few weeks to stabilize our condition and get us ready to travel to our foster homes. I am doing a bit better since starting on my medications. I also was heartworm tested and am heartworm positive. The veterinarian started me on doxycycline for that. I also can’t see or hear well.
We went on a road trip from Louisiana to our foster homes in North Carolina and Virginia on 7/19. I was a good girl on the road trip. I have arrived at my foster home in Virginia and am so thankful for the lovings that I am getting here. Foster Mommy snuggles me on her lap, and I already follow her everywhere! I even tried to get in the shower with her! I am leery of other new people. Foster Daddy is working on winning me over with treats, and I love treats…so just need a little time. I have learned to do steps…didn’t know what they were before. I am getting the hang of walking on a leash but prefer an umbrella when it is raining! I love Heide, the other dog here…we play, easy, so sweetly.. I have improved a lot in a short time!
I am currently on medical hold.
Here is an update from Foster Mommy about my 7/24 vet visit:
I weighed 34lbs and can gain another 3-5 per the vet. The vet said, at most, I am 3 years old and have fantastic teeth.
I will require entropion surgery for my eyes and currently have eye medications until that can occur. Because I am undergoing heartworm treatment, the surgery will not be until at least late December.
My ears are now in good shape. I just have small ear canals
My foster Mommy and Daddy gave me a bath, and I feel and smell so much better.
And my super hap-pei news is that foster Mommy and Daddy are going to be adopting me! I knew I could win them over!
